About
Iraqi Scientific Geotechnical Society (ISGS)
The Iraqi Scientific Geotechnical Society (ISGS), established in 2001, was founded by a visionary group of Iraqi academics and engineers united by a common goal: to advance the science and practice of geotechnical engineering in Iraq. As the country’s leading professional body in this field, ISGS provides a dynamic platform for researchers, engineers, and practitioners dedicated to understanding soil behavior, foundation performance, and the geotechnical challenges that shape modern infrastructure development. ISGS proudly represents Iraq as an active member of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), contributing to international conferences, technical committees, and high-level forums that foster global collaboration and knowledge exchange. Since its inception, the Society has been a driving force in promoting research excellence, professional growth, and technical innovation within Iraq’s engineering community. Through its well-established program of symposia, workshops, and national conferences, ISGS continues to nurture scientific dialogue, strengthen professional expertise, and encourage sustainable, practical solutions to complex soil–structure interaction challenges. Among its most distinguished achievements is the organization of the upcoming Sixth International Conference on Geotechnical Engineering – Iraq (6ICGE-Iraq 2026), scheduled for April 8–9, 2026, in Baghdad. This landmark event reaffirms ISGS’s enduring commitment to advancing geotechnical knowledge and building stronger bridges between Iraqi and international experts in the pursuit of engineering excellence.
